To help aspiring animation artists who are designing characters for the APW Character Design Contest, we asked animation professionals – former APW students and friends of APW working in the animation biz to add their character design pointers in the Pro-Tips series. APW grad, Toronto animator Animator Chang Dai brings us Pro-Tip #6 about the importance of line quality. Chang’s extensive professional experience animating at Yowza Animation Corp., Jam Filled, Guru Studios and many more have given her ample opportunity to practice varying line quality on different character designs. Chang uses a drawing of one of her characters to demonstrate the effects of different thicknesses and weights of line.
