Werner Zimmermann’s central role in the training of young animation students in figure drawing and artistic anatomy for decades is well known by anyone in animation circles in Canada, USA and abroad.  Werner’s personal figure drawing practise and study of artistic anatomy combined with his award winning work in children’s book illustration have clearly informed and shaped his teaching. There’s something very special about being taught by an artist – someone who embodies the very things they teach through personal learning and experience.  This article is a good read as it put’s a spotlight on Werner Zimmerman’s life as an illustrator and artist.  At it’s heart, drawing is above all a practice.  Unlike topics you learn to do by reading a book or by taking an online class or weekend workshop, drawing reveals itself gradually over a long time when expert and experienced instruction combine with consistent practice.  We salute Werner in his work!

“I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, but now with the new semester at Seneca I’m compelled to finally say it: Animation Portfolio Workshop is really making a difference in the quality of students that come into my first semester Life Drawing classes.”
