Our APW 2016 Character Design Contest special guest judge Toronto storyboard artist Myke Bakich chose the contest winners for this year's contest.
Myke's extensive storyboard experience includes animated feature films such as Epic, The Nut job, Angry Birds and the Golden Globe nominated “The Book of Life”.  Also TV projects Lego Marvel Avengers, Thomas and Friends and the Dreamworks production How to train your Dragon.  Have a look at Myke's website.
Working along side his wife co writer, producer and actress Chandra Michaels, Myke recently directed and co-wrote a short live action film Busy Bee which premiered at the Toronto International Short Film Festival and won “Best of Canada” award.
Myke stopped by the Animation Portfolio Workshop to speak to a room full of eager enthusiastic students who are embarking on their own paths toward animation school and eventually working in animation.  These APW students happily took in Myke's presentation of sketches and storyboard drawings that formed sequences from a number of movies he has worked on.  Drawing on both his professional experience in film and his experience as an APW Drawing for Animation instructor, Myke communicated with ease, taking questions from the group as well as from individuals after the class and inspiring everyone in the process.
